Thea Belecz, We Art Women Artist
Thea grew up in woods, fields, and shoreline of Lake Michigan. She spent many hours hiking in the woods and
swimming in the lakes and streams with her sisters until
she enrolled in Forestry School at Michigan State years
later. Thea loved the endless shapes and colors of plants,
moss, and landscape of her native Michigan. Graduation led Thea to a job in Idaho where she was overwhelmed by the rustic remoteness of her new environment. She cried for a year. Eventually, the lack of towns, cities, hustle, and bustle thrilled rather than upset her and she got busy trying to translate her feelings about her new natural environment into mixed media and fiber artworks using photography, collage, fiber, and bookbinding. Ongoing study with all manner of skilled artists has nudged Thea into continual exploration and refinement of her methods and styles of work.
Thea's mixed media pieces "Fenceline" and "Ice flower" are part of the We Art Women Juried Exhibition. See it in person on First Thursday, April 4th from 5-9 pm!
